Maria Hertogh was borned in Java on 1937 to Dutch Catholic parents who were later imprisoned by the Japanese .
She was brought up by Che Aminah and her husband as a Muslim and was renamed chandra or is it something else .... ?
When Maria's mother came back to claim her after the Japanese Occupation , this case was brought to court .
When the court ruled that Maria was to be returned to her parents , Che Aminah sent out an appeal and the court later returned Maria to Che Aminah
Under the care of Che Aminah , Maria was married to a malay teacher when she was just 13 years old .
The fight over custody of Maria continued on November 1950 . The court ruled that Maria was to be returned to her natural parents . The judge also said that the marriage was not to be recognised according to the Dutch laws .
The Muslim community was thus , upsetted as they felt that the muslim law was not respected .
Che Aminah appealed again for the custody of Maria but it was rejected in court in i forgot when .
Aminah's supporters started to riot at the Padang . Any Eurasians or European seen were attacked , Cars were overturned and burnt . Serious rioting erupted near the vicinity of the Mosque and i-forgot-where-again .
The riot lasted for three days and a curfew was set for two weeks . About 13 people were killed and a hundred over injured .
